    1. As soon as we have finished scanning your photos we will email you a link where you can download your photos and start enjoying them right away.

    2. When we post your original photographs back to you we will include a DVD discOR USB flash drive that contains all of your photos.

  • CAN YOU DISPOSE OF MY OLD PHOTOS AFTER SCANNING?

  • WHAT RESOLUTION DO YOU SCAN MY PHOTOS AT?

As standard we scan photos at premium quality 600dpi (there is the option to upgrade to 1200dpi during checkout (cost +50%)). 600dpi resolution captures all the original detail of the photo and is suitable for enlarging photos to over twice their original size.

Below are a few examples of the finished digital size of some common photo sizes:

    6×4″ = 3600×2400 pixels (8.6 megapixels)

    7×5″ = 4200×3000 pixels (12.6 megapixels)

    8×6″ = 4800×3600 pixels (17.3 megapixels)

    10×8″ = 6000×4800 pixels (28.8 megapixels)

  • DO I NEED TO UPGRADE TO 1200DPI?

The premium 600dpi resolution we use to scan photographs is sufficient for most people. However, during the checkout process you have the option to upgrade to ultra-high 1200dpi (cost +50%) which has the following benefits:-

The resolution of TVs, computers and mobiles is constantly increasing. A 1200dpi image is more ‘future-proof’ due to it’s vastly increased resolution.

1200dpi photos can be enlarged to approximately 4 times their original size compared to twice their original size with 600dpi.

The following table compares 600dpi vs 1200dpi. Sizes are based on a 6×4″ print.

  • I DON'T KNOW HOW MANY PHOTOS I HAVE, WHAT SHOULD I DO?

Enter your answer here. Be thoughtful, write clearly and concisely, and consider adding written as well as visual examples. Go over what you’ve written to make sure that if it was the first time you were visiting the site, you’d understand your answer.

  • WHAT FORMAT ARE MY IMAGES SAVED IN?

We save all scanned photographs in high quality JPEG. The average file size is 1-3MB depending on the original photo size.

  • WILL YOU ORGANISE MY PHOTOS INTO FOLDERS?

Yes, we can organise your photos into folders but a surcharge of £1 per folder applies. Please indicate you would like your photos organised during checkout and then place your photos into clearly labelled bundles (with short, concise titles. Max. 20 characters. Longer titles will be shortened). For example, if you label a group of photos ‘Majorca 1996’ we will put them in a folder called ‘Majorca 1996’. We can also simply number your folders if you leave the bundles blank without a title.

Bundles should be contained in envelopes, plastic bags or secured with elastic bands. Slips of paper/card between bundles is not sufficient as these can move about during transit.

The total surcharge is calculated after scanning is complete and will be added to the final balance (e.g. 10 folders = £10 surcharge). so you will not be charged in the checkout page but will be charged before photos are sent back.

  • WILL MY PHOTOS BE ROTATED AND CROPPED?

Yes. Our scanning system automatically crops photos to their physical dimensions and then we manually check, crop (if needed) and rotate each image.

Please note: ‘physical dimensions’ means that any extraneous paper, sticky tape etc that extends beyond the border of the photo will be included as part of the final image. It’s always best to make sure anything like that is removed before sending to us.

  • DO YOU RESTORE PHOTOS?

Yes check out our other services or click here

  • HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO COMPLETE MY ORDER?

We generally scan orders and send you a download link within 5 working days of receiving your photos (excludes weekends & bank holidays). This can sometimes vary, particularly around holidays such as Christmas. Please check our turnaround time estimate on the photo scan page.

Your originals and DVD/USB(s) are normally dispatched within 2 working days after scanning has been completed (excludes weekends & bank holidays).

  • I’M IN A HURRY. CAN YOU SCAN MY PHOTOS QUICKER?

If require your scans ASAP then you can use our express service. This prioritises your order and means you will normally receive your download link in only 1 working day (excludes weekends & bank holidays, larger jobs may take slightly longer).

Cost for our express service varies depending on the quantity of photos and will be calculated when you place your order.

  • HOW SHOULD I PACKAGE MY PHOTOS?

    Only sending a few photos?

If you only have a few originals to send, you could use a board backed envelope or padded envelope. We strongly recommend that you place the envelope in a plastic mailing bag to protect from moisture during shipping.

    Sending lots of photos?

We have found through experience that it is best to package and post your originals in a sturdy mailing box, like those that you can pick up at your local Post Office. Group prints in envelopes or plastic bags.

We generally don’t recommend sending your photos in rigid plastic boxes – these have a tendency to break easily under impact. A sturdy cardboard box will absorb impact much better.

    General packing tips:

Make sure your outer container is strong enough for the contents

Seal envelope/box in a plastic mailing bag.

Fill your container with cushioning material like bubble-wrap, screwed up paper, or polystyrene chips, to prevent your originals from moving around during shipping.

Avoid using shredded paper as cushioning material, as it is inherently dusty and only offers minimal protection.

Write a return address on the item

Include your order number or place a print out of your order inside your container

Seal securely with tape along all openings and edges

Use a ‘FRAGILE’ sticker, if necessary

PLEASE USE A TRACKED POSTAL SERVICE AS WE WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR PHOTOS UNTIL WE HAVE THEM ON SITE.

  • CAN I DROP OFF/COLLECT MY PHOTOS?

We offer a number of options to suit:

    1. You can drop the photos off at our office

    2. We can send our own courier at a cost it will depend how far you live from our office

    3. You can arrange your own courier and we will send them back using the same courier free of charge (please make sure you get tracked etc as we are only responsible for the photos while in our hands so we will be sending them back tracked)

  • WILL MY PHOTOS BE SCANNED/RETURNED IN THE SAME ORDER?

If your photos are contained in an obvious order we will try our best to scan them in that order but can’t guarantee this. There may be the odd occasion when some photos are slightly out of order. This is normally due to a photo having to be re-scanned.

However, if photos are contained in envelopes/batches (e.g. by year/event) we will always place the photos back in the same batch. Just the order of the photos within the batch might be slightly different.

Please note that numbers on the back of photographs will be ignored. The photos should be in the order you wish them to be scanned when we receive them.

  • HOW CAN I CHECK THE STATUS OF MY ORDER?

We will email you every step of the way. We will let you know as soon as we receive your photos, once we have scanned your photos and lastly when we post your photos back to you. We can also send you text messages with order updates if you provide a mobile number during the checkout process.

  • WHY HAVEN’T I RECEIVED ANY EMAILS FROM YOU?

Sometimes emails from us are incorrectly filtered as junk mail. If you haven’t received any emails from us please check your junk/spam folder.

Yes. We keep secure backups of your images free of charge for up 12 months from the date we complete your order. After this time we will delete all images used in the process of producing your order. If you require anymore copies of your photos then contact us. If you do not want your photos saving or for a shorter time period please inform us.

  • DO YOU SCAN EMBARRASSING/ADULT MATERIAL?

Yes, we are all grown-up here and know that sometimes photos can be of a personal nature. We treat all orders with the strictest confidence. After we scan your photos we keep a copy on-site for 1 month and then they are securely deleted.

PHOTO RESTORATIONS AND COLOURING BLACK & WHITE PHOTOS

  • HOW MUCH DOES PHOTO RESTORATION COST?

Every old photo has been on its own unique journey. Whether its been – carried around in a purse, framed in front of a window,  stored in a damp loft or battered by the elements of war. So, how much does photo restoration cost?

The simple answer is – there is no set cost. It all depends on the extent of  the damage endured on its journey.  A damaged photo can be affected by: fading, sun damage, rips and fold lines or missing sections that need recreating. Photo restoration costs start from £9.99 – for a basic restoration of a faded black and white photo.

  • WILL PHOTO RESTORATION AFFECT THE ORIGINAL PHOTO?

No not at all. Photo restoration is a digital process, where a scanned copy is restored. Your original photo will be returned just how you left it.

  • CAN TWO OLD PHOTOS BE MERGED TO MAKE A NEW IMAGE?

While researching your family tree you may not find a photo of particular descendants together... however two photos can be merged to make a new image. It's like creating moments in history when a photo doesn't exist. Several factors will help make a perfect photo merge, similar photo: lighting, angle, quality and year taken.

  • CAN A BLACK AND WHITE PHOTO BE COLOURISED?

Yes, to colourise a black and white photo really brings it to life! It is a digital process of building up colour tones, resulting in a naturally coloured photo. The outcome is very rewarding as it shows moments in history that have never been seen in colour (except by those who were actually there).

  • HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO COLOURISE A BLACK AND WHITE PHOTO?

No two photos are the same, therefore the cost to colourise a black and white photo would depend on the level of detail. Each photo will be individually quoted. Colouring prices start from £24.99.

  • CAN A SUN FADED PHOTO BE RESTORED?

Displaying our favourite family photos around the home is something we all love to do. However, being exposed to sunlight for many years those precious moments are at risk of fading and discolouration. But a sun faded photo can be restored.

  • CAN YOU MAKE A FUZZY PHOTO SHARP?

Little sharpening is possible on some pictures. However we cannot correct pictures that are basically out of focus.

  • CAN YOU REPLACE MISSING PARTS OF A PHOTOGRAPH?

Yes. If the missing part is an extension of the rest of the picture (such as grass, or a wall) we can probably do so from the original. Complex areas may be replaced by using another photograph where the missing detail can be seen.
